🌤️

The Sun Room

You picked light every time, which puts you in the glass room at the back of the house: half indoors, half garden, never quite finished. It is where people go when they want to be reachable without being busy. Right now you are in an open phase, saying yes to invitations, leaving the window ajar, happy for the day to bring you something you did not plan. Keep one corner of it for yourself, because rooms this welcoming fill up fast with other people's afternoons.

“The room I am living in is the sun room, open and half outdoors.”
🍞

The Warm Kitchen

Every door you opened had a person behind it. That puts you squarely in the kitchen, the room nobody designs as the social centre and everybody ends up standing in anyway. You are in a feeding, gathering, checking-in sort of month, and you measure a good day by who came round rather than what got finished. The trick with kitchens is that the host rarely sits down. Pull up a chair on your own side of the table now and then.

“The room I am living in is the warm kitchen, and everyone ends up here.”
📚

The Late Study

Bottle green, one lamp, the door closed on purpose. You are in a study phase: gathering, reading, turning something over slowly before you say anything about it out loud. Other people may read this as withdrawal, and it is not, it is just work that does not look like work yet. The room rewards you for staying in it, which is the only real hazard. Set a time when the lamp goes off and the rest of the house gets you back.

“The room I am living in is the late study, one lamp and the door shut.”
🔧

The Workshop

Iron latch, sawdust, a screw on the floor that you would have picked up. You are in the workshop, which is the room where things are allowed to be in pieces. This is a making, mending, taking-the-back-off-it stretch of your life, and the mess is genuinely the method rather than a failure of tidiness. What the workshop needs is a finished shelf: one small thing completed and put where you can see it, so the pile of half-projects stops feeling like a debt.

“The room I am living in is the workshop, where things get to be in pieces.”
